Installing a Bathroom Extractor Fan
You are here: Home > Bathroom Fans > Bathroom Extractor Fans
You already know that a high level of humidity and condensation can harm your bathroom in a very ugly way. The moisture can cause discomfort if it is not eliminated from the room. If the bath doesn`t have windows, the situation is even worse. Water is responsible for most of the maintenance repair work needed on houses, nowadays. An extractor fan must function in every room where a shower is installed.
Even if the product is of very high quality, there are some factors that can reduce the efficiency of the extractor fan. For example, the place where you install it is very important. Please consider the next pieces of advice before you install the bathroom extractor fan.
1. The installation of the fan should be done at a high level and in the furthest window wall from the main air inlet point. This is necessary because only in this way you will obtain a maximum flow of fresh air trough the entire room.
2. Ensure there is enough provision for replacing fresh air. This is advisable and must be done using grilles on the ceiling or wall, even doors if you have no other choice.
3. The bathroom extractor fan should not be situated in rooms where temperatures go over 50 degrees, and not near a cooker hob.
4. While installing the fan, when you get to the part where the wiring has to be carried, make sure you follow the instructions, paying close attention to the supply voltage. Of course, all the wiring must be correct.
5. On one hand, there should be a vertical duct installed with a waterproof roof. On the other hand, horizontal ducts shouldn`t be missing either. Also, you can use flexible hose ducting to complement the rigid system. It is usually used when a rigid system cannot be installed properly. For slow moving air, the best choice is a flexible hose.
Ensure that in your bathroom there is sufficient fresh air and adequate ventilation. If you have a room with high level of condensation, all the surfaces from inside will be soaked and this will create perfect conditions for growing mould and wet rot.
Installing a bathroom extractor fan may be one of the best things that have ever happened to your bath. To keep your walls and your cabinets in a perfect shape you really need this fan, because otherwise the humidity and condensation will harm it.
